Season 3, Episode 3: Fit for Golf = Fit for Life - with Selena Samuela

We are joined by Peloton instructor, Selena Samuela, to discuss how a love for Golf can lead to an even greater zest for life

There are relatively few fitness or sporting endeavours, which have transformed my life, quite like Golf has. The only one I can think of is my beloved Peloton bike. Acquired in 2021, at the height of the global pandemic, it was a lifesaver.

Whilst the world had battened down the hatches and was isolating en masse, we were given little choice but to find new and novel ways to get our daily dose of fitness. No sooner had my Peloton bike arrived, I was almost instantly glued to it.

I look back at the pandemic years with a strange deal of fondness, as not only was it during those years that I became married to my beautiful wife, Kim, but it was also a time in my life when my mental and physical fitness was at its peak.

I owe a lot of this to the exercise classes I undertook through Peloton, both those I did using my bike, but also the array of Strength classes which its membership provides.

Meanwhile, much has been written and publicised about Golf’s increase in popularity and participation rates, during the pandemic.

Whilst I was putting my body through its paces on my Peloton bike, one of their roster of fitness instructors was discovering a passion for Golf, which she’d later bring to the fitness studio for the benefit of her legion of fans and fellow lovers of the game.

Selena Samuela - who has amassed a following of 200k+ on social media - is an inspirational figure, bringing infectious energy into everything she applies herself to. Her Instagram account is a treasure trove of inspirational quotes and reflections on everything from Golf, Fitness, through to parenting, relationships and so much more.

In 2024, Selena launched the Strength for Golfers programme via Peloton, which features seven instalments meant for each day of a golfer’s week, with areas of focus including stability, explosive power and improved range of motion.

During this week’s episode, Selena and I discussed that fitness programme in more detail, as well as her wider love for the game (and why she considers it such a unique sport) and we also dive into some metaphorical reflections, about the synergies between Golf and Life.

As you’ll see and hear, Selena is a wonderful conversationalist and I’m convinced you’re going to love this episode, as much as I enjoyed recording it.
